VideoNow Player
03.20.04 (1:59 am)   [edit]
Saw this in a Toy R Us flyer in the Sunday paper here in Seattle. It's kinda expensive, but you can find it online for about half the $49.99 price.

It's the
VideoNow Player by Hasbro about the size of a portable CD player with a small 2 inch or so b/w screen that plays special vid CDs. (If this link doesn't work at some point, then just put "VideoNow Player" into your favorite search engine).

The problem tho with this unit, while great for kids, is that the discs are proprietary and can't be played, according to Hasbro who makes the thing, on any other media players. So the titles are limited.

For parents tho it's a great thing for their young kids. It's safe to use and the titles are kid-safe.

I suspect tho that this will push down further the cost of portable DVD players. No doubt we will soon see players with color screens for those on the go that just want to see DVD movies without all the fancy features of the current players running at about $179 and up, and who want a more private viewing screen. However, batteries will have to be able to last the length of a full length motion picture so a rechargeable version or one that uses cheap batteries will have to be available.
